Our AI engine was born as SOF.I.A. (Software de Inteligencia Artificial, Spanish for “Artificial Intelligence Software”): a knowledge system created by our founders. It learned from every conversation, checked external sources when it did not know something, and appeared as a 3D avatar whose expressions were synchronized with its answers. It could be embedded in websites, robots, museums or video chats.

“Sofía assists you, but don’t try to confuse her.” The newspaper introduced Sofía, the first version of what is now AI-IA, as a virtual advisor that learns from the people it talks to, marketed by a young Medellín company: SOLUTECIA.

We have lived every wave of technology from the inside: the first personal computers, the birth of e-commerce in Colombia, conversational AI, blockchain and, today, AI agents.
Iván Londoño writes his first program on his own. A self-taught journey begins, and it has never stopped.
Iván builds one of the first working chatbots in Spanish, the seed of what is now AI-IA.
At Zona Virtual, Iván works on the PSE online payment button and on Plaza Orbital, one of the country’s first online stores. He later joins Intergrupo and leads teams at Católica del Norte and IME.
In January, the engine now known as AI-IA, then called SOF.I.A., starts talking with real users. That year we take it to the 2nd Inventors and High Technology Fair, become Cultura E finalists and present it at Andicom in Cartagena. In November, Iván Londoño and Claudia Ramírez found SOLUTECIA S.A.S. In December we win Medellín’s 8th Business Plan Competition, which opens the door to support from Ruta N, Creame, Proantioquia and Parque E.
El Colombiano features SOF.I.A. after its showing at the Createc fair in Monterrey Mall, Medellín. That year we also pitch it to the Ángeles Inversionistas (angel investors) network in Bogotá. Over the years the engine evolves: it is renamed MIA, and today it is AI-IA.

The people behind it
We are not a company that discovered AI in 2023. The same people who created our AI engine in 2009 lead every project today.
Entirely self-taught: no degrees or diplomas, everything learned on his own since he wrote his first program at age 10, in 1982. More than four decades later, his question is still the same: how do you program thinking into machines?

Since 2009. That year we launched our AI engine, then called SOF.I.A. (Software de Inteligencia Artificial) and now AI-IA: a conversational assistant that learned from its conversations and spoke 33 languages. The newspaper El Colombiano featured it in October 2010. Our founder, Iván Londoño, has been developing AI since 2000.
AI-IA is SOLUTECIA’s artificial intelligence engine, created by Iván Londoño and Claudia Ramírez. It was born in 2009 under the name SOF.I.A. (Software de Inteligencia Artificial). It worked as a knowledge system that learned through repetition and association, could be embedded in websites, robots or museums, and used a 3D avatar with synchronized facial expressions. To avoid confusion with the acronym it was renamed MIA, and today it is called AI-IA.
